Colorizing Reunion

Found this sketch of Jacob and Esau by jesusonlysavior.deviantart.com while I was doing research for a sermon title slide a month or so ago. The reference for the sermon was going to be the reuniting of Jacob and Esau after Jacob had swindled his older brother out of the birthright and ran off. I downloaded a copy of the black and white sketch of this scene for inspiration - inspiration of the kind of emotional quality I was hoping to achieve with the slide. The actual sermon slide ended up being some visual pun about burying the hatchet. The sketch sat on my desktop for a week or so before I felt compelled to colorize it. I wish I was better at the whole light source thing. I tend to ignore the light sources when I'm coloring and tend to color whatever part however I feel like coloring it. I'm sure if I started keeping that more at the forefront of my mind, the end products would be better overall.
Anyway, I enjoyed working on this. I've posted it on my deviant art page, but haven't posted much else on there yet, so don't you all run over there to see what's new because you've seen the newest stuff since I post them here first. It's hard to keep up my online portfolio, this blog, the deviant art page, the behance page, the writing portfolio, the flickr and pintrest and.... yeah, you get the idea. Somewhere in there I've got to do some real living - in which skills, I'm sorely lacking.

Stitching Project: Bear

Found a pattern for a simple bear on pinterst - decided to do one of them yesterday evening. It didn't take long and I think it turned out ok. What do you think? I'm not crazy about the shape of the arms - am going to make those a little different next time. I enjoyed doing it so much that I think I'm going to re-purpose those millions of old shirts into cute little plush dolls I can send with our church members when they go on various mission trips. And I should have enough left to put into an Operation Christmas Child box or two this fall.

Hang a Star - Illustration

The original sketch for "Hang a Star". I love to draw snowmen and little animals in scenes. Here's the completed illustration - colored digitally in photoshop.

I haven't decided where else I'll be making them available. Here's the first one.  Books one and two will be available starting January 31, 2023.
