Red Bird Sketch

Cardinal done in red color pencil.

Of Photography and Plans

A few weeks ago I spent the evening with one of my sisters. She brought over her fancy camera and gave me a few photography lessons. I took a lot of photos, but if we’re talking “good” photos… I think I may have managed to get one, possibly two good shots. Original Photo taken with my sister's Cannon. This is it. I think it’s the best composition, the best contrast and clarity of focus of all that I did that night… yeah, didn’t have many successes, but I did have a lot of fun. I did a rough digital painting of the glass too. Here it is. And the rough digital painting made from the reference.

Of Snails and Frogs

There’s just something about snails and cute little frogs…  did this sketch a long time ago – as part of my pre-employment for Crown Craft,  it is still one of my favorites.

Looking through Cathedral Windows

Or to Stuff or not to Stuff – Isn’t that the question? Here’s a sample of Mamaw’s Cathedral Windows. She said she liked the way they looked when stuffed. And that it added another depth to the finished piece, but Mom and I both believed that the windows looked just as good without the stuffing as with (not to mention that the stuffing added yet another step to the already long process) so we didn’t stuff our “windows”. Mom has been working on the 6’ piece for about two years. She even spent quite a lot of one vacation holed up in the hotel room with her portable sewing machine stitching together the white parts that she and my dad later would turn while they watched tv during the week. She said she’s put in her time and that she doesn’t want to even think about working on another cathedral window quilt – not ever. Yeah, I kinda laughed, but she showed me how to do it so I added a row to the piece she had started. She wasn’t joking – that’s work! It is like what I read i

What Super Power to Choose?

If I could choose any super power, what would it be? Fly, read minds, know future, telekinesis, immortality? I’m much happier not knowing the future, so that’s definitely out. I’m sure I’d be happier if I didn’t know what people were thinking. I’ve no business knowing what they’re thinking in the privacy of their minds. I think it would be great to fly. I could save on gas, unless it’s raining/snowing. I’ve always thought that would be fun, to be able to fly. I haven’t been in an airplane – may change my mind after I do that. Telekinesis is out too. I think if I had telekinesis, I’d be super duper fat. I’d never do anything but lift a few fingers each day. Immortality I’ve already got – I have an immortal soul – everyone does. I don’t have the ability to instantly heal when I get hurt and I will likely have to die, but I will live forever. In considering all the possibilities, I'm glad God made me a normal schmoe.
