Colossal Coaster World VBS

Here's the final sketch with some color pencil magic.
I've been working on stuff for this year's VBS today. You should see my face. I took a look in the mirror and I had pencil smudges all over the place.

Anyway, you're probably looking at that mess I've been slaving over. I used the visitor map sample that came in the supply package and pulled some bits and pieces from it to make something that fit our building and class layout. The perspective is wacked on my version since I just dropped things into the layout without much thought other than the standard "that will be there." I don't think the layout suffered too much from the multiple perspectives. It's just a fun sketch of things.

I changed several bits and pieces from sketch to final before sending them the sketch they could use on the board and once that was finally done, I put some color pencils to work on a print out of the corrected clean sketch so they'd have some color suggestions. I've never been very good at putting color combinations together. I do better with one to three colors in a composition, as I'm sure you can determine after looking at the colorful mess I've included in this post.

Here's the original messy sketch done with a mechanical pencil.
The Children's Pastor's wife and a friend or two are going to transfer the drawing onto some foam board and prop it up between the buildings as a directional "You are Here" sort of sign. I hope it's going to be worth the time and trouble it will take to transfer the design and then to paint it on there. I can't imagine how long it will take for them to paint all of that onto a board and feel a little bad about having taken so long with getting the sketch done for them because now I don't have time to help paint it.

Anyway, I sure did enjoy working on these and hope they will help the kids feel immersed in Colossal Coaster World this year at Vacation Bible School.

((If any of you would like a copy of this at a higher resolution than what I have posted, let me know. I'd be happy to send it over.))

Hang a Star - Illustration

The original sketch for "Hang a Star". I love to draw snowmen and little animals in scenes. Here's the completed illustration - colored digitally in photoshop.

Stitching Project: Bear

Found a pattern for a simple bear on pinterst - decided to do one of them yesterday evening. It didn't take long and I think it turned out ok. What do you think? I'm not crazy about the shape of the arms - am going to make those a little different next time. I enjoyed doing it so much that I think I'm going to re-purpose those millions of old shirts into cute little plush dolls I can send with our church members when they go on various mission trips. And I should have enough left to put into an Operation Christmas Child box or two this fall.
