A Rebranding Adventure

FBCZ logo sketches - round 3 - JFleming 2014

So, yeah - we're re-branding now that the new boss is here. It's past time for this and I'm excited to freshen up the look we've got now. I created the last logo about four/five years ago. They said they wanted something traditional but more corporate looking than the last logo. Here's what I gave them last time:

This time the boss wants something uber modern but he doesn't quite know what he means by that. Every time he sees something else that he likes he wants to scrap the direction we were working in and run in that new direction. It's a challenge - a good challenge - and although I'm not sure I'm up to the task and am unsure if I will be able to provide the kind of logo he wants, I'm enjoying working on it - especially since the media director is handling the new web site stuffs right now.

The plan is to launch everything for the first of the new year - the new logo, the new website, the new slogan/mission statement and focus. It's all do-able if a few decisions are made. I wish I had time to explore a zillion new design directions on this, but without the backing of a design team to get it done,  little ol' me is hoping to have time enough to push regular duties aside to handle what they're wanting. And, the new logo isn't something they'll have to live with forever - they can change it again in a few years just like we're changing our current one. Nothing in relation to design is locked in stone around here.

Anyway, here are some of the designs that the new boss (and the staff) liked then scrapped in favor of going in a new design direction.

This is the one I thought they'd chosen.

These are additional samples from various other design directions. Mostly "marks" and such.

These are square versions of the round one I thought they'd settled on last month.

Freelance Design: Selena Sews

Proofs with the two I liked most at the top... This is the one she chose - definitely my favorite - although she chose the one with the sewing machine for a larger sign she was going to do cut vinyl for. I'm looking forward to seeing these in action. A talented friend asked me to help her with some designs for craft bag tags. If you're interested in seeing some of her side-hustle goods, check out her facebook page .

Just do something!

I'm so tired of hearing about how politicians need to "compromise" and do what that particular politician wants them to do. I'm tired of those same politicians saying that there needs to be tolerance when they're the most intolerant people in the universe. This debt problem that our government has is a ridiculous problem. Anyone in his or her right mind wouldn't purposely spend more than they took in OR pay $1400 for a hammer that cost $8.50 at the hardware store OR award billions of dollars (they'd have to borrow from a foreign country) to someone to study the effects of methane on ants or some other foolish thing. If I could speak with the leaders in congress and the house right now, and knew that what I said would make a dent in their stiff-necked stances, I'd let them know in no uncertain terms that they were all fired and that we're starting over. Pay off the debt we have so we won't be in such a bind, get rid of welfare (cause since t...
